HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Dear Mom,
I’ve been thinking a lot about genes lately. Like I said before, I got lucky. But more important than what I inherited are the things you’ve taught me. You have always been my best audience. You laugh at all my jokes and give me the inspiration to keep trying to be witty, even when most coherent thoughts are beyond my grasp. You’ve taught me humor really is the best medicine. You light up gatherings with your enthusiasm and are one of the few people I know who has the stamina to keep up with the kids for an entire day. You’ve taught me that energy can be mustered from within and shared with those around you. You always believe the best about things and people. You taught me that optimism can change outcomes, or at the very least, make the in between time bearable. When I am really, really sad, and all I want is my mom, you are always, always there. You’ve taught me true dedication and loyalty is in coming without having to be asked, and doing what needs to be done without reciprocal expectation or complaint.
Best of all, you’ve shown me how to be a wonderful mother.
I remember the first thing you said when I told you I had cancer… you said we’ll get through this. And we will. I’m just so truly fortunate to have you as such an intergral part of my “we.”
I love you.

Hi Mommy,
You rock. We are so glad that you feed us every day, and keep us clean. Every time you come into the room, it lights up our world. We know you don't feel very good right now, but that's ok, we still love you and like to see you at daycare and home and anywhere else. People tell us we're lucky to have parents who are so devoted to us, even in the worst of times. To us, you and daddy are everything right now, and you both live up to it. We know that we feel warm and loved and safe when you guys are around. People are always saying, "I don't know how they do it." We're not sure what they mean, but we know that you are the best. We are also glad you have so many friends; they seem to make you happy and well. We think your no-hair is cool, and no matter what, you are mommy and the center of our universe.
We love you so much and you are the greatest.
love,
X and Wham
p.s. Thanks for the mac and cheese.

As far as our mom goes....ugh...what you said :-) We lucked out!

And...to quote Xander in times of angst..."Mommy I NEED you!!", and to interpret Whamo's jargon, facial expressions and wiggling....I'm positive they feel the same way about you. Happy Mother's Day Cari! Know that Whamo and X are just as lucky as me, you, and T...guess it comes with the genes :-)

Dear Cari,

Happy Mother's Day! With all the roles you have to fill right now, you deserve to relish your role as Mommy today.

I LOVED seeing you & Jim last weekend. What a lot of fun to get to visit with amazing Austin friends, and to get to celebrate the marriage of Caroline and Matt. I came back truly refreshed and energized. I hope you did too. You are such an inspiration to me.

I'm thinking of you...and am sending lots of happy thoughts your way.

Love ya,
Pam

Carolyn -

Happy Mother's Day! Your blog should have come with a warning "if you are not wearing waterproof mascara, please be prepared to head to the ladies room or grab a tissue." I glistened up within the first few sentences...just a marshmallow center beneath my human exterior. Thank god I always have tissues handy (just pull them out of my bra...just kidding). Mothers are wonderful beings - and you are a card carrying member of both the "wonderful person" and "superhuman mother" clubs.

Sending you hundreds, no thousands, of HAPPY THOUGHTS today.

So well put... I have so many great memories of your Mom and being around her definately can lift the spirits.
I think I might have "borrow" some of what you wrote I have a hard time getting it on paper sometimes. Have you ever thought about applying for a job with Hallmark? : )
Think of you each day and hope that little joys occur daily especially during these times.

Cari-
Recently I had received an e-mail linking me to your site. It is hard to know what to say other than I am deeply affected by your experience. I have taken many things in my life for granted. I have led a reckless, self-absorbed existence up until a few years ago. Your site has re-awakened a part of me that I have long since forgotten. I want you to know that I am thinking of you and your family. I try to imagine what life must be like for you right now; no doubt these are trying times indeed.
I remember a girl I knew in high school; full of energy, compassion and drive. The girl has since "grown-up" of course, but essentially she has retained those traits. I see that these qualities never faded over time, but merely serve as a foundation that continues to grow and spread to others around her.
I firmly believe these qualities will continue to propel you towards a long and happy life. It is good to see your family again; especially your immediate family. Good looking crew you have there... Be well Cari and know that I am pulling (i.e. praying) for you. Hang tough. "This too shall pass."
Sincerely,
JAM
