(JUST SOME OF) THE THINGS YOU LEARN...

  • I would've had a better reaction to chemo had I been a bigger drinker in my past (I am not making this up-- my oncologist told me!). (damn clean living) At this point I just feel like I have a hangover all the time, which is probably what most of my Navy friends felt like all the way through college, and they did fine....
  • Blog-link connections are far reaching, inspiring, and powerful-- thank you jeannette for getting me hooked into this amazing community!
  • Apparently, my skin tone is "medium", as explained to me by the "Look Good Feed Better" sign-up lady over the phone (thus confirming I will have a lot to learn when I attend the class on Monday).
  • I have cheekbones (as reported to me by a co-worker upon seeing my new hairdo :) )
  • Asking for/accepting help is a good thing.
  • Alexander can sing "Monkeys jumping on the bed" for over an hour without stopping.
  • I get cold a lot faster without all that hair.
  • If you don't take off your pants when they tell you to when changing into those oh-so-lovely gowns at the hospital, they probably won't make you.
  • I have the perfectly shaped head.
  • I have incredibly wonderful family/friends/colleagues (...but this I knew)

A few more:
--The nurses get kind of mad when they come in and find Ronan wearing latex gloves and holding a tongue depresser
--Cold rain on a bald head is quite a shocking experience
--"Look Good Feed Better" is an organization bridging the gap between "Cook Good Feed Better" and "Look Good Feel Better"
--Two gowns (one forward, one backward) will cover your butt
--Lots of doctors and nurses smoke

Can't wait to see your perfect pumpkin!

Heck I'll throw in a few too:
--If you have to wear a gown, keep your happy socks on (crazy, colorful socks) - you will always be complimented and spread lots of smiles!
--Not only do lots of doctors and nurses smoke, but they have some of the highest smoking rates of any profession!
--When Xander was learning to speak, he could say "whale, whale, whale" repeatedly during most waking hours. :)
--if you wear fashionable scarfs around your neck, you can keep yourself extra warm all the time.
--Whenever you see someone who is important to you, be sure to always say: (1) I'm sorry! (2)I forgive you, (3) I've missed you and (4) I love you. This makes sure you focus your relationship on the important things.

Big hugs and lots of positive juju to the whole Nobel Rudolph clan!

Carolyn,
Please know that your amazing courage and unbelievable outlook have inspired and touched the hearts of so many of us.
Kara has shared with me stories of her new found friend and told me of your sad news. I have read your updated blogs as soon as they are posted. So many times I felt like writing - but didn't.
You are a beautiful person and I just thought that it was time to come forth and tell you how very inspirational you are.
How very lucky Kara is to have you as a friend. She's right about that beautiful smile!
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Well, today the unthinkable happend in Southern California - the temperature dropped to 41 degrees and it rained. I had to dust off my fleece (poor thing had been missing me and just waiting to come out of the coat closet). The "locals" are wearing more gear than I would wear on coldest day of skiing at Winter Park. I guess girls born in Buffalo do have a natural thermal layer (i.e., fat) to keep us warmer than most mere mortals.

I hope that you are relaxing and your hang over is going away.

Carolyn and Clan,

We heard that drinking in the morning was the sure cure for a hangover.

We are in New Zealand for a few more days, we always look forward to hearing about how you are doing. Sending good thoughts and love your way.

There's a lot of people trying to give you love and strength, as if by some sort of web-enabled osmosis. Well, I'm going to try and pile on a little a try to send you some feelings of rest. I'm going to sleep really hard tonight and through my very developed, Sensory Transmosis capabilities, you will feel more rested on my behalf. Seriously, my grandma told me since I was a young'n, "Don't pass up a chance for a good nap." Naps can be one of the greatest things you can do in a day, and waking up from a rejuvenating snooze with the afternoon sun creeping through the window...well, there's not many better feelings to behold.

Have one on me!

Carolyn,
Glad to hear that things are going pretty well with everything! I hope and pray that the chemo doesn't make you ill and that the hangover effect is the worst of it. -Just another virtual friend (from Syracuse) sending you positive energy, rest and good wishes for fast healing! Cuddle those little guys for me. They grow up so quickly! Our older son is 12 already and the baby isn't a baby anymore, he's a two-year old. Yikes.
