A DAY IN THE LIFE

Yesterday was a big day. Alexander had "snack day" and his 3rd bday party at school, and we all (me, jim, liam and alexander) went to my sister's friend's hair salon, Hair People, to get haircuts. My hair was yearning to be free, and grossing me out so I figured we might as well make it a family affair, since Jim and Alexander both needed haircuts and Liam looked like a hobbit since I wouldn't ever let anyone cut his hair. So now I look like a cross between GI Jane and a radiation victim, but as Lisa says, my wig is "way nicer than your hair ever looked-- styled, I mean." (ahh, sisters). Liam got the wiggles and only got part way through his haircut, but I think we both can live with it. The whole hair thing is kindof insult to injury. Chemo: feel crappy, look bad too. At least I got partial lack-of-vanity training for this in college, when I had to wear a Navy uniform once a week-- nothing like looking like a life-sized brown turd on a campus of J. Crew models.... but oh, the character I'm building. And xander is way impressed that he has a mom who can take her hair off (and he was pretty mad he couldn't shave his head too.)
My day in pictures:

my wall of happy thoughts

hair break for freedom

trying to sort out doctor receipts for the flex account

cupcakes for xander's party. He snuck one!

the perfectly shaped head?

Carolyn -

Agreed - you have a great shaped head - much better than most bald men I've seen! I think there is some Natalie Portman movie out now where she had to shave her head too...maybe that just means you are destined for Hollywood...as Radioactive Boob Woman? As Stupendous Sister? As Electrifying Environmental Engineer? As Super Mom? Wow - you better get an agent because the offers are going to start rolling in!

That is so great you made it a family affair to all get hair cuts together. And how awesome for Xander to want to get a buzz cut just like his mom. He may be a mini-Jim, but this just shows he loves (and supports) his mommy and wants to be just like her. And that's pretty special. :)

Big hugs and even bigger happy thoughts,
Karlynn

Hey!
Liam looks like a new kid!

The back of your head looks great. It must be easier to put the wig on now. I've never understood how people with lots of hair get their hair under a wig. It must be like putting on a swim cap. And that's not particularly fun.

I'm thinking about you lots. Sending happy thoughts to you as quickly as they come.

I'm sure you're not excited about it, but my dome and your dome are equally populated with hair, I think. ;) Hey, at least you don't have to get hair plugs or do those nifty comb overs!

As for your previous entry, you shouldn't feel obligated to anyone to feel a certain way during your treatment and recovery. Your only obligation is to get well for you and your family.

You're entitled to feeling bad and having "bad hair" days... We, your friends and family, are just trying to limit these periods since we're all pulling for you. Plus, I'm sure many of us also believe your positive mental outlook is beneficial to your recovery.

So leave the cheery thoughts to us and don't worry about meeting everyone else's expectations.

Ahh... carolyn your head is so beautifimous it makes me want to eat it up! Oh wait... that was the cupcakes. And the cuteness that is Liam.

Seriously, if I was an art critique I would definitely give you high marks for form, balance and use of media.

Miss you tons!

Hi diddly hey, neighbor-ino!
Just back from a weekend of razor clamming. The clamming was way off, but it's never a wasted trip to go to the ocean. Nothing like being outwitted by a bivalve to make you feel like the superior species...

Monday was amazing, though, with blue sky, hundreds of drift logs, doggies romping in the surf, and so on. And the Burley trailer enjoyed being away from suburbia and getting mucho muddy.

As important as the perfect pumpkin are the perfect ears, which lie nicely against the head and don't make you look like a sugar bowl!!! Very stylish.

As a side note, I saw the coolest tattoo ever the other day:
http://baldrus.com/ About halfway down on the right.

You are beautiful and Cari is still in there all the time.

love,
bmc :)

As my dad once said "God only made a few perfect heads, the rest he covered with hair"....that from someone who was bald from the day I was born. You look great! I took a few days off last week after the proposal went out the door. I left the laptop at home and everything (this is a big step for me) - the only real downside to that was not being able to check in with you. I'm headed to Moline today for work (not really sure where that is) - must be a real "hush hush trendy place" that all the stars go to...sort of like Aspen. I'll let you know.

Have a great day!
